Youthful Influences

We've had the pleasure of the company of two thirty-something women over the past few weeks. The first was my friend Endless Weekend's daughter, MR, a new member of Blipfoto with nine entries. She stayed with us five nights a week for three weeks while taking two intensive summer courses in Spanish at Western Washington University, where she did her undergraduate degree.

It was even more meaningful to watch the Democratic National Convention with a woman in her early thirties, sharing the joy at seeing a highly qualified woman twice her age win the nomination for president. I hope that by the time MR is my age, there will have been several women who have served as president of our very large and diverse country.

We bid her a fond farewell Friday morning, and a few hours later welcomed my daughter, M, who came up for a 24-hour visit. She's been taking modern dance classes after work and enjoying them very much, and wanted me to see what it was all about. We went to an excellent performance by students from Western Washington University Friday evening; I was amazed by their athleticism and their artistry, as well as their never-flagging energy!

Today we went to the Bellingham Farmers Market, where M chose green beans, kale, peaches, plums, and other items to take back to Seattle with her this afternoon. Before leaving downtown, we walked a few blocks to Chocolate Necessities to replenish her cocoa supply, admire the chocolates, and have gelato to cool off. Mine was lemon and rosemary, quite an unusual flavor, and very good!

So it's back to the "old folks at home," but the pace doesn't drop much... stay tuned!
