Life in Sunny Dubai

Wonnersh URC

Well, the day started full of hope and good plans, that completely got kaiboshed by a certain bike race. Sorry if there's anyone involved with that event reading this, but I wonder if you have any idea how much you affect ordinary people.

That's my rant. The intention was to go to the 10:30 service at Send Evangelical Church, but thanks to road closures, we ended driving through Wonnersh. G spotted this church, and suggested we wouldn't be quite so late if we went in there instead. Turns out their service starts at 11am, so we were early!

Went in, and it was fantastic to be in a church that looked more like what I grew up in (minus the carpet and TV). I loved that they had the hymn (yes hymn) numbers up! G quickly looked them up in the book and was thrilled. A good service with great hymns, and a very friendly and welcoming congregation.

We then set on our way to Kingston for a pre-booked Sunday lunch. A 55 minute journey ended up taking nearly two hours. The restaurant was very accommodating and the lunch and venue were really good. One of the reasons I wanted to be in Kingston was to see the deer in Richmond Park and the telephone boxes in the market, but we didn't get to do either of those mainly because of being stuck in lots of traffic and things being closed off... so gave up on that and got back to the lodge. All for another day. Maybe.
