Traditional Market

In my chat yesterday to Richard, the gite owner, we got on to the subject of chickens. He mentioned a monthly market in a relatively close town, on the first Monday of each month, that he thought we would like & wrote down the details. We love a market!

Not up early, but away by 10. The small country roads in this very rural piece of France are not unlike those that surround Gresham. Single track, so it doesn't really matter what side of the road you are supposed to be driving on!

It is also very French. I know its France, but this is not a tourist area, so there are no English speakers. To communicate you speak French or use hand signals!!

We got to the market at 10.50. It was huge! Of every conceivable market stall, there were at least 2. Rows of chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, even songbirds in cages. Puppies too, plus rabbits, guinea pigs and tied up to a post small donkeys and ponies. The atmosphere buzzing as it was clearly the place to meet and socialise, as well as do your monthly shop. We didn't buy much. Une grande pain et a water melon. Found a cafe where we sat outside and enjoyed a bit of people watching with our coffee/orangina. Then a picnic back at the car before driving back for an afternoon of reading, sun worshipping and dipping in the pool.

The blip I am finding a relaxing end to my day...i think it will continue!
