If you can't beat them...

Pooley Bridge

As the weather was good we decided an afternoon gardening at the Lodge was in order.  On the way there we met miles (literally) of traffic queuing to get over Eamont Bridge.  They were people who had attended Kendal Calling (a local music festival ) over the weekend.  I have yet to discover why it is called Kendal Calling when it is 20 odd miles from Kendal near Penrith!

Incase the traffic was still heavy we turned towards Pooley Bridge when we left.  An ice cream and a walk by the river were on the agenda.  After eating the ice cream we were strolling over the (temporary) bridge and this scene caught my eye.

I was so glad to see it.  Pooley Bridge was heaving with people this is the garden of the Crown Inn,Grannie Dowberkins Coffee shop and garden were the same.  The place has come along way from the empty days when the lack of bridges gave a detour of miles just to get here.

I know swimming in rivers is frowned on because of the dangers but at this  time of the year the river is little more than "wellie" deep right across so the kids were safe and able to have a good time.  It was interesting also to see the swans taking the Cygnets and training them in how to beg from the tourists!
