Mind The Gap

A frenzy of activity in the madwill household today as we emptied shelving and cupboards and removed all small items of furniture from our living and dining room so that I can start start decorating ahead of the new carpet fitting  next week.

It is amazing how much stuff you accumulate - CDs, DVDs, books, ornaments, hi-fi, toys, etc.etc. Mostly now jammed into the spare room upstairs. Just the large items of furniture and TV etc to pile up in the middle of the room to cover with dust sheets!

I did manage to get out for a short walk with the dogs and I noticed that these poplar trees and the giant hedge were being trimmed. At this point the central trees had been cut back - quite severely - leaving just the outer ones to be done. The guy up the tree was being tossed around by the wind today - not a job for the faint hearted I would imagine.

There is a very sad tale about the property that the trees and hedge belong to. A couple of months ago the owner, living alone at the time, passed away whilst having a bath and it was quite a while before anyone realised - and so they had to break in to find the body. It was only noticed as the neighbours had complained about the smell which they had assumed was coming from the drains.

I had walked past the house on the way back from a walk to find a stack of skips and and army of white suited workers at the property. Only later did I find out why. The upstairs windows of the house remain open! I guess they are looking to tidy up the place with a view to selling it.
