Brass Academy

I was up early and out the house to get my chores done, including collecting my meat from that fabulous butcher (who I see won the award for the best butcher at the Surrey Food and Drink awards in 2015 and was a finalist for the South of England Best Butcher Shop Award for 2016).

Thomas has enjoyed his week long course with the Brass Academy. He and the other grade 8 musicians were part of an 'elite' workshop where they really concentrated on technique and he has lucky enough to have some excellent tutors, including Phil Cobb who is the principal trumpeter for the LSO. The week finished with a concert which was very impressive. Although this is a rubbish photo I wanted a record of this in my journal - it was the only one I could get of Thomas as we were sitting on the side of the concert hall.

The course was held at the Yehudi Menuhin School which fortunately is about 2.5 miles from our house. The school is a specialist music school founded by the violinist Yehudi Menuhin in 1963 for musically gifted string players and pianists, so to have a brass concert being performed in its beautiful concert hall must have been a rare occurrence! It has some famous alumni including Nicola Benedetti.

We have friends coming for supper so I must go prepare the food.
