Wildflower terraces

Alex received an email this morning, confirming that he'd been offered the paid trainee post with Froglife, working on their Dragon Finder project. Hopefully this will be the first step in his conservation career, well deserved as he's put in an awful lot of volunteer hours to get to this stage. Apparently there were over a hundred applicants (many of whom were likely to have been recent graduates) but he was one of very few to have relevant practical skills and experience. It seems that his decision to pursue an informal learning regime hasn't counted against him.

Lizzy, Ben, Alex and I had a celebratory afternoon out at Easton Walled Gardens, a wonderful mix of formal gardens, wildflower meadows and a stretch of the River Witham. We played quoits and catch, ate scones, jam and cream and strolled round in perfect summer weather. I particularly enjoyed the wildflower terraces, which had a very fine display of Burnet Saxifrage (the frothy white umbellifer). A very good day all round...
