Castillo de Loarre

Our campsite last night was located just below this 11th century castle so we went up to visit it when we left this morning.  It was very cheap to go round and really interesting.  It was so well preserved that we could imagine what it must have been like to live there.

The castle formed a defence at the southern side of the Pyrenees to protect the Christians from the Muslims in the rest of Spain.

We are now back in France in the town of Olorons ste Marie on the other side of the Pyrenees.
