Dragons' Den

The  Dragon Triathlon in the AOG’s always draws the crowd and today was no exception down at the Olympic Lake. It consists of 3 disciplines: flying, balancing and ovipositing.

The dragons draw the crowds because of their sheer size, broad wings and powerful flight!  The loud clatter of the wings as they propel themselves over the water weaving at a pace through the reeds to find the right plant stem is a spectacular sight.  The crowds in the tightly packed arena, cameras held aloft with flash lights peppering the stadium all around creating their own fabulous light display adds to the magic of the occasion.

Gaining access to the changing rooms just prior to the event I spoke to Susie Southern Hawker about how she fancied her chances against all the other dragons in the competition:

I found her calmly listening the the soothing sounds of ‘The Frog Song’ on her ipod trying to stay focused and was just hoping all the hard training in the pool to build up her stamina was going to pay off. Well she was certainly looking good  in the prelims yesterday. We wish her well as she is certainly at the top of her game and in for a real chance of a medal this week!
