Cathedral View

Well, the sun was out and it was a perfect day for returning to old haunts for today’s Blipfoto.
So scarcely surprising that I was back in Salisbury, by the River Avon and savouring the magnificent view towards the city’s cathedral.
This is one of the best spots in the city to view the cathedral from a distance, albeit at this time of year you can really only see the spire. But then it is the tallest spire in England, towering to a lofty 404 ft, and the second highest in Europe, and almost dwarfed by Strasbourg Cathedral at 466ft.
Last time I was here it was after the trees had for the most part shed their leaves, and then you get a much clearer view of the cathedral itself.  So much so that I have used photographs from this spot on personalised Christmas cards in the past.
With temperatures touching 24 degrees, the city centre itself was buzzing, and when I walked through the Cathedral Close, so was the cathedral itself. But small wonder, with the city describing itself as the quintessential medieval English city, it was not simply shoppers in the streets, but plenty of tourists too.  Each time I stopped to measure up a possible Blipfoto for the day, I found myself jockeying for a good position among any number of tourists speaking languages which were clearly not that of native Wiltshire “Moonrakers” as Wiltshire residents are often colloquially known.
