Birthday Girl

We have spent today in Spain celebrating the 5th birthday of my granddaughter, Sophie.  It doesn't seem possible that it is five years since this beautiful, charming and strongminded child came into our lives.  We put up a birthday banner and had brought a few cards and presents with us. I had arranged for a cake to be made here (birthday cake doesn't transport very well on aeroplanes) and we were joined by some children we knew locally.  The girls all had a great time in the pool before we put out the party food, lit the candles and sang Happy Birthday - in English and in Spanish!

More fun in the pool later on and Sophie managed to swim a little way on her own with a great deal of positive encouragement all round.

Tomorrow will probably include a trip to the beach and more swimming.
