National Beard Day

Rosebay Willowherb must be one of the most common flowers we consider to be a weed. It flourishes in any area of cleared land and in places that would seem improbable in supporting life, amongst rubble and in wall crevices. This one is clearly on the wane after months of flowering and has acquired a wispy beard of fluffy seeds, appropriately it seems as this is National Beard Day.

Having just last week said goodbye to the Festival visitors, our area is now host to an influx of young things, fresh faced and vibrant, making His Lordship and me feel our age rather more than usual.
Yes, the students are returning ahead of the new term and with them the information table in Middle Meadow walk manned by the Scottish Nationalists ever anxious to recruit to their cause of Independence for Scotland.

As I listen to the news that there are rallies and marches today around the country including Edinburgh, in support of the European Union and against the Brexit vote, I can't help wondering what the point of democracy is if the minority cannot accept the result of a democratic referendum poll. Answers please............ In fact no, please don't bother, I'm too tired of division in the ranks.
