Birdland

Beautiful day here in Essex, Jazzy dog and I saw these birds on our walk around our land. Jack Heron was fishing from the bank of our neighbour's lake. A rather messy-looking chiffchaff called, "Weet, weet" from a blackthorn and a blue tit joined the long-tailed-tit troupe in an elderberry bush.

I've been reading up on Lullaby of Birdland. Though the lyrics mention a pair of turtle doves billing and cooing, the title comes from the name of a New York jazz club which was named after jazz saxophonist Charlie "Yardbird" Parker. Poignant listening to Amy Winehouse singing the lullaby. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylYum8RoO1Y
