Sgwarnog: In the Field

Outnumbered

The visiting Darlington 1883 fans were out in force at Horsfall Stadium tonight, seeming to outnumber the Bradford Park Avenue supporters, in the main stand at least. In the non-segregated world of non-league football it can be a little disconcerting to find yourself surrounded by the opponents, but everyone's friendly enough.

Darlo have been successfully climbing the football pyramid since being demoted several steps to the Northern League and forced to assume the status of a phoenix club at the end of the 11/12 season. Three promotions later they lie near the top of the National League North while Avenue languish at the bottom following seven consecutive defeats.

Make that eight consecutive defeats, as despite taking the lead early in the second half, Avenue were overhauled by two Darlington goals in the final fifteen minutes.

This image sees a number of the Darlington fans accumulated on the uncovered terracing at the end of the stand, shortly before their team's comback began.
