What Do I See

Hangar

There is an old RAF base on the outskirts of Bicester. For as long as I have lived around here it has been a quiet place with a gliding club. A few weeks back every lunch time there was a number of planes launching gliders as quick as they could. It turned out there was a gliding competition.

A fellow photographer colleague at work (he of the super zoom lenses) and I have managed to get permission to go over there and have access to the site and take some pictures. We made our first trip this lunchtime.

It is a step back in time, and for this very reason there is a strong push to preserve it (as you can see here). Obviously nothing like an operational RAF base any more, but there should be some fun exploring the place. I think we may well come back for some more pictures. There was a plethora of different small aircraft and all manner of gliders too (obviously...)

This is a picture of the roof of the main hangar that is being used to store a number of gliders and powered aircraft. I quite liked the patterns of the steelwork, it is all looking a little dilapidated now, but I wouldn't want to have to paint it!
