The Edge of the Wold

Docking manouevres

I've been neglecting the macro lately, there's been too many dull and wet days. This morning was just a bit too windy, but it did mean that the hoverflies were spending more time hovering before landing. I took this in between puffs of wind that had the scabious flowers dancing in and out of focus.

When we reseeded the lawn after the builders had reduced it to a rubble heap, I put in a lot of seed of small scabious Scabiosa columbaria. In grazed limestone grasslands, this is quite a diminutive plant. In the garden, it grows to a metre tall and the hoverflies and bumblebees love it. We have an exceptionally untidy garden, but it is good for insects and tortoises.

Speaking of which, I relocated Reg basking in the morning sunshine. He's been out of contact for a couple of days after yet again managing to shed his tracker.

This is a very early blip for me, and the fourth in 24 hours, we are off to Yorkshire for a bit of a flying visit.
