Lake Wakatipu

Today began early with a pleasant and informative drive along the edge of Lake Wakatipu to Paradise Valley. This was with a small tour company; just the five of us and an Australian couple, being shown a number of the locations used for filming The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The boys got to dress up as  Aragorn, and wield his big sword. Today's extra is of them with their Mum, who confessed to some apprehension as the swords had very sharp points.

Back to Queenstown for a late lunch, followed by a repeat of yesterday afternoon's walk in the gardens and both boys climbing the big rock. Then a return to the rope swing over a stream, where boyish pleasure and laughter turned to panicked calling and crying as Mr H badly cut his foot when in the stream.

He, his mum and I spent more than two hours at the local hospital where the wounds were cleaned and sutured. Unfortunately, one tendon was severed and we will need to take him the nearest base hospital tomorrow or Monday for that to be joined up. Sombre faces.

He was very brave although distressed by all the blood and the thought of stitches. The reality wasn't as bad as he thought it would be
