FLOWER FRIDAY

Mr. HCB has been working very hard in the garden during the last few days, trying to get rid of the ivy that has been climbing and getting entangled in our wooden fence, for many years.  It was getting rather out of hand, and as he enjoys a challenge and likes to use the grub axe, pick axe, loppers and bow saw, it has given him a chance to “get his heart pounding” as he says!

He had planted some sunflowers in the bed just in front of the ivy, and not wanting to just throw them away, I brought the remaining two indoors so that I could enjoy them on my kitchen window sill.

Most people would photograph the front, which is almost perfect, but I wanted to take a photograph of the back to show the intricacy of that – and of course, as it has been eaten by snails, it’s not perfect, but for me it doesn’t detract from the beauty of the flower.

Made me think it’s a bit like us – we can put on our make-up (if we are ladies, that is!) and have our hair and nails done so that we “look the part” but sometimes underneath there are parts of our lives that are less than perfect, but we mask that and carry on as if nothing is wrong.  How often have we answered the question, “How are you?” with one word - “Fine”?

Perhaps we all need a few friends to whom we can pour out our hearts – to let them see us as we really are;  then they can help us in the healing process so that we may realise our true potential.  I’m going out for coffee this morning with such a friend.

“A friend is one to whom one may pour out
     the contents of one's heart,
          chaff and grain together,
knowing that gentle hands will take
     and sift it,
          keep what is worth keeping,
and with a breath of kindness,
blow the rest away.”
