Ruined Arches

My respect for the past was reinforced today when I visited the remains of an ancient Friary in Dunwich, Suffolk and dates from the 13th century. Dunwich is famous for being the village that fell into the sea due to coastal erosion and the bells of the churches that disappeared are still supposed to ring at high tide!  This ruin was once a grand and significant religious site - moved to this site so as to be safely away from the risk of falling into the sea. As a Friary, it closed at the time of the Dissolution of the monasteries (Henry VIII has a lot to answer for) in 1538. The site is now largely agricultural in use and managed by the National Trust.

It is a calm and peaceful place and I was very happy spending time here today, using the tripod to take a range of exposures to convert into HDR which enhances its dramatic appearance.  Definitely a ruin worth visiting.
