Beavering away

Haven't done the "Shickling" dog walk for some time and encountered another new project undertaken by the conservation group concerned with protecting and improving the Günz rivers & streams. Earlier this year they had dug out a whole series of pools for amphibians and now the latest a perhaps 10m wide "drain" that starts at one point of the river, then runs more or less parralel and returns after a few hundred meters. (see Extra Photo).

I can see it being useful in times of flooding but need to find out what it's purpose is. There are a lot of beavers here - the Blip of Luna was taken about 50m from the river. A normal drainage ditch which a beaver has dammed mainly using whole maize plants from a field about a further  100m away.

Watch this space...

Good day all around except for being somewhat sleepy. Made the mistake of watching late night US TV. Sadly the trend in the USA - probably a Nigel Farrage supported export from the UK  - is spreading. This evening on prime time TV on Germany's equivalent of BBC, a debate/discussion on the events in Dresden on 3rd October's Germany's Unification celebrations. Dresden is in the former socialist/communist East Germany and throughout the 40 years of thThe day the wall came down, the reverse happened: the neo-Nazis blossomed in the East and is now the HQ for the anti-immigration movement. The demonstrators last week called out for Merkel to leave the city and take the German President Gauck with her - both of them are former East Germans!

So far the German, sort of UKIP party, the AfD is still being tackled on facts and they haven't yet got the grasp of simply ignoring questions and repeating lies ad nauseam until they are believed. Sad but it's now getting dangerous.
