Bay of Kotor

This is Perast, our coffee stop on the Bay of Kotor this morning. The Bay of Kotor is further down the Adriatic coast in Montenegro. It once was the home of the Yugoslav fleet and it was from here that they were able to attack Dubrovnik in the early '90s.

Out in the Bay there's are a couple of islands, one with a monastery and one with a Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Rocks, attracting more visitors than it can hold. Slightly unusual around here as Montenegro, like Serbia is predominantly an Orthodox country.

The Bay is truly beautiful and at the head of the Fiord (so called as it is surrounded by mountains but not geographically correct) is the town of Kotor itself at the foot of the mountains seen ahead. This was our destination. We weren't alone, soon after taking this shot a huge cruise ship came into this narrow part of the bay where Perast is situated, heading for Kotor.

Kotor is a walled town, bustling and interesting as the walls not only surround the town but head off up the mountain some 240 meters where there is a castle and a church en route. We didn't climb them! The town also seems to be well known for cats. There are lots of them and they adorn many of the souvenirs you can buy.

Having skirted the entire bay to get there we took a short cut back on a ferry from Port Montenegro across a narrow point in the bay before heading back across the border.

Today has been very warm and humid and on our return we decided to get the bus into the old town to enjoy a bit of evening ambience before dinner. It looks wonderful lit up at night and there was a full moon, no need for a coat, amazing for the time of year. We had a drink to the accompaniment of a jazz band along side the cathedral.

Pooped now. Sorry I have no time to comment tonight.

PS extra is the main street, Stradun, in Dubrovnik at night. Notice the shiny floor, the stones are not wet but polished limestone.
