Admirable Autumn Admiral

I prefer to shoot butterflies using my 100mm macro lens and will go to great lengths to do so. I'm often to be found wobbling at the top of a pair of tall steps capturing my quarry. No chance with this red admiral, it was basking in the sunshine high up in a hazel hedge, leaves turning beautifully golden.

Having enjoyed the lovely painted lady migration programme the other day presented by Martha Kearney and Dr James Logan I've become interested in the migration of red admirals. I'm following the fortunes on Twitter of 7000 colour marked individuals. Some have turned up in Switzerland. No port and starboard marks on the wings of my specimen but it was lovely to see it.
