Castle and Gardens, Edinburgh

A glorious autumn day in Edinburgh. Met with Cathy, Susan's niece, and Stephen and their two daughters Alba and Mabel at the Angel's Share Hotel at the west end of New Town. Met Mabel for the first time as she was born in late August. Enjoyed a very nice coffee too and most of a bacon roll that was ordered for Alba but she didn't eat.

A bit of shopping along Princes Street and a bit of photography of the Gardens and Castle led us to John Lewis for soup and complimentary scone and coffee.

The afternoon was spent visiting Gladstone's Land in Lawnmarket, an old town property owned by the National Trust for Scotland. From there it was a gentle jaunt up Arthur's Seat with spectacular views of the city, Forth, coast, Pentlands, Fife in a sparking clear atmosphere.

Returning to Princes Street we caught a bus to the Tailend Fish and Chip restaurant on Albion Place on the way to Leith. Very, very good it was too. Not quite as good as the Mermaid in Hastings, but the chips were almost as nice and the fish (haddock) not very far away.

Plenty of choice for blips today; babies, Castle, views, but settled for the Castle.
