A Perfect Day for A Lighthouse - back blip

We took a much needed rest today. It was chilly, rainy and foggy in the Down East part of Maine. We had a special nautical-themed gift in mind for our youngest daughter and set off around lunch time to find it. What a wild goose chase we were sent on by several well meaning folks and later returned to our hotel without a compass rose in hand. We found plenty of "made in Maine" gifts for others though. Later, we decided to go back to Mount Desert Island to see the Bass Harbor Head Light. As you can see, the best place to photograph this light is from a boat; we were on land. This light was completed in 1876 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The light keeper's house is now the private residence of a Coast Guard member and his family. We were able to get this shot by hiking a short distance through the forest and descending to these rocks via a series of wooden steps. Although it was very foggy, the view was pretty from our vantage point. And we could easily see the need for lighthouses on these rugged shores.
