Water's Fury

We headed south from Ellsworth, ME, along US route 1, and decided to visit more lighthouses. Our directions were sketchy at best. The weather had not improved at all from yesterday; if anything, it rained more. Last on our list before sunset was the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park in Bristol, ME. The Lighthouse was commissioned by John Quincy Adams in 1827. This is the Lighthouse on the ME State Quarter, making it the first Lighthouse to be featured on a piece of US currency. As lovely as the setting is, I quickly became more entranced with the turbulent water at its edge. This photo cannot begin to show the ferocity of the turbulence that occurs when two waves coming from different directions crash into one another. I am going to miss the rugged Maine seashore.
