Orienteering

Although Butterdean is far from being my favourite piece of woodland, it was a pleasure to spend most of the day there helping our club put on an orienteering event. The best weather was first thing, so there was sun filtering through onto the carpet of golden leaves as I put out controls. We had about 50 people take part: more than half of them children and encouraging them is always a joy. Finally, when bringing in controls I had the opportunity to pick these parasol mushrooms. We ate them with our dinner and they were very good. Long live autumn!
