Tea And Oranges

I like to do a special blip for Armistice Day, and today I planned to use my poppy mugs, bought last year, a part of the payment went to The British Legion.

I lay in bed this morning listening to Chris Evans talking to Cliff, and Cliff singing "Blue Suede Shoes". Then on the news I heard of the death of 82 yr-old Leonard Cohen. I came to know LC's music at college folk club evenings, 46 years ago. I loved the song "Suzanne" I suppose because I should have been called Suzanne. My dad was sent to the Registry Office and just said Susan!

I loved that growly voice and those rugged looks. After leaving college I was alone in my appreciation of this man until I started blipping!

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river,
You can hear the boats go by you can spend the night beside her,
And you know that she's half crazy but that's why you wanna be there,
And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China,
And just when you mean to tell her that you have no love to give her,
Then she gets you on her wavelength and she lets the river answer,
That you've always been her lover.

And you want to travel with her,
And you want to travel blind,
And you know that she will trust you,
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
Leonard Cohen
