Home straight

On 4 January this year our builder arrived to undertake what I thought was a small project: to take away the French doors and windows at the end of our dining room, which separated it from a small lean to, to make one big space.  I was certain that it would all be done in a couple of months.  I was wrong.  It wasn't until 16 March that the wooden floor was laid at the far end, but we had to wait another 2 months until the  carpet at the other end was laid, just in time for Violet's birthday party.  Even then we weren't really finished as the whole room needed redecorating: we had to wait until just over a fortnight ago for our (excellent) decorator to arrive.  He really does decorate to a wonderful standard so we knew that we'd have to wait until after the Summer, when he does exterior work, before he could fit us in.
This is the third weekend that the room has once again been out of action and the rest of the downstairs floor cluttered with various items that should belong in there.  Tuesday should see it all finished, just in time to get ready for Christmas!
In other news, our friends from Perth Australia have come over to see their son and his wife and found some time to spend with us today.  We had a lovely lunch at a pub in High Beach and good catch up, although it is only a few months since we saw them
