Rydal Cave

Woke to heavy showers chasing across the lake and fells, swiftly followed by blasts of sunshine.

We'd decided on an easier day after two 10 milers, so headed off to Grasmere for a walk and a browse around the local shops.

Fortunately we went walking first in the better of the weather, enjoying great views and skies as we walked to Rydal Cave above Grasmere and Rydal Water, returning along the shores of both lakes to Grasmere.

We'd been to Rydal Cave some years ago so it was good to visit again and marvel at the men who worked there all those years ago.

Back in Grasmere we enjoyed a cheese scone with grated cheese and chutney at Baldry's along with a pleasant cup of coffee. Then we hit the shops. I bought some winter gloves and a head torch, both of which we didn't really know we wanted when we went into the shop. Susan tried on some boots and bought a few Christmas presents. Meanwhile the rain, mixed with hail hammered down outside.

Good to get back to the Inn on the Lake, have a bath and enjoy our final evening meal.
