The Tulip Stairs

The tulips stairs in the Queen's House at Greenwich were the first centrally unsupported stairs in England, copying a Venetian model. Recently restored the stairs have long been described as showing tulips in the wrought iron, but they are probably lilies, the royal flower of France, in compliment to Henrietta Maria.
