Fenando and Elaine

Fernando and Elaine are an adorably odd couple. Fernando looks like a member of the Russian Intelligentsia who came right out of the 19th century; Elaine's pale, almost translucid skin would make her a perfect choice for the cast of the Underworld franchise. 
Appearances are not always fair. In this couple's case, they tell a completely wrong story. Fernando is a very gentle and sweet person, who seems to feel comfortable only when he has reasons to smile. If he doesn't have them he creates them. The purpose of his God-given intelligence is to make people feel at ease. Fernando got rich selling me replacements for the couches our dogs destroyed (I'm kidding).
Elaine on the other hand doesn't talk much. In fact, the only thing I know about her is that she works as a furniture designer in a town some 200 miles away and that she sees her Fernando only every second week. Thin and pale as she is, she almost disappears around other people. But there is something I observed: Fernando keeps constant eye-contact with her. He might be telling a hilarious story about some absurdity he encountered along his short life (he is only 27), and everybody is laughing, but his eyes are always looking for Elaine, as if she was his anchor, the source of his smiles and giggles.
Today's blip is therefore a homage to the insistence of love in joining people who need each other and thus creating something beautiful like this couple.
