Above And Beyond...

Goodrich Castle Walk

Mrs BB is taking redundancy at the end of the month and has some leave to use up so she decided to take today off, and wanted to take our friends dogs for a long walk.

I decided on one of our favourites which starts at Goodrich Castle and walks a good couple of miles along the River Wye before heading up to the ridge for the return leg. It was frosty with many fields white; the dogs loved it.

On getting back to the car the sun was starting to set so I thought I'd grab a photo of the castle with the lovely sunset hues. You can see the white frost on the grass of the dried out moat.

Goodrich Castle stands high on a rock outcrop above the River Wye, Goodrich Castle is one of the region's most striking ruins. A pale red sandstone keep was constructed in the middle of the 12th century.

The original 'Godric's Castle' was established in 1095 by Godric Marplestone who held the manor at the time of the Domesday Survey of 1086. Goodrich Castle became the scene of one of the most desperate sieges  during the English Civil War in the 1640s. Today the castle is in the trust of English Heritage, grade 1 listed, and only open on the weekend.
