Vertical Puddles

Moon over bikesheds

Night falls early — and quickly — at this time of year.  I'd taken the camera on a long walk at lunchtime but got distracted and forgot I had it with me.  On the other hand, on the way out of work having left the camera in the office I saw this.  The bike sheds have appeared before, but only with their daytime splendor.  At night, they're even more striking.

Off to the cinema afterwards for a late night showing of Arrival.  In an age where science fiction seems to consist of in-your-face special effects this was a beautifully understated exploration of how first contact may occur and was deeply emotional without ever being sentimental.  I later found out (thank you IMDB) that the author of the short story it was based on described it as "that rare thing, a good film and a good adaptation" which is a better description than anything I could come up with.
