Loch Fyne

A visit to Inverary today, North West of Glasgow. It is a very scenic drive from Glasgow to Inverary passing alongside Loch Lomond and through spectacular glens. In some ways it looks more like the Highlands than the Highlands themselves.

Inverary is a planned town in that it was moved and rebuilt around 1750 so that the town fitted better with the Duke of Argyle's mansion which is adjacent to the town. One of the local attractions is a visit to the former town jail and courthouse.

After a coffee sitting in the sunshine we made a visit to Inverary Castle. This is still the home of the Dukes of Argyle, and is a mansion rather than a castle, though no doubt there was a castle here at one time.

It was a day of sunshine and showers, and having got soaked earlier in the day I bought an umbrella in the Castle Shop. This purchase ensured I did not need an umbrella for the remainder of our visit, so a worthwhile purchase.

The view shows Loch Fyne as seen from the town. On the left there is a road bridge, single file, which links the rest of the world to Inverary. Though apparently it is also possible to arrive by sea plane.
