WIDE ANGLE WEDNESDAY

I was up much earlier today and the light was beautiful early this morning.

I remembered that it was the Winter Solstice and that Mr. HCB’s mother always used to say that after the 21st December the days got longer - I think she wanted to convince herself that the dark days would soon be over.  There will be just 7 hours and 49 minutes of daylight today and I want to enjoy every minute.

Apparently, there were many people at Stonehenge to witness the sunrise on this shortest day of the year and I read that this annual event marks the point at which the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees away from the sun and that ancient civilisations mark it as an important moment and a chance to bring old traditions back into modern life.

Well I suggest we bring the old traditions of Christmas back into modern life - let’s forget about the materialism and everything that crowds out the real reason for Christmas - let’s spread love and peace and hope to those around us, so that it goes out in a big wave to others, who in turn spread it to those around them.

I realise that Christmas can be a difficult and sad time for many, but let us receive the joy and love that God wants us to have and the reason for sending his only son, Jesus, and then share it with others - and you don’t need to wait until Christmas Day to do it!
