Throwback Thursday: Christmas, 1958

Such a curious photograph.  Here is my grandmother, Helen Evans, scrutinizing some sort of gift.  From the expression on her face, I'm not entirely sure she is delighted with it!  That small child wearing the peculiar headgear is Yours Truly.  I suspect the hat was a recently opened present, and I also surmise that as I am wearing it, it must have been a hit with me.

My grandmother was an old lady before I was even thought about.  She was born in 1888, and she was 40 when she had my mother -- very unusual in those days.  She lived a good, long life, dying at the age of 92 shortly after her first great grandson was born.
