Tis the season......

.....for golden pohutukawa against a blue summery sky.

On a very hot (31C) and blustery day hubby and I enjoyed a picnic at Gore Bay. Our food we could've taken from home but decided to buy it from the small town of Cheviot before heading to the bay.

Since the Kaikoura earthquakes and closure of State Highway 1 the small town of Cheviot has become a ghost town. It was really nice to sit and have a cuppa, buy our food and support the businesses who are stuggling, we are all hoping State Highway 1 will be open before Christmas.

Gore Bay was stunning today, the sea beautiful vibrant shades of blue into turquoise, I could taste the sea air. Lots of birds and bees feeding on the nectar of the pohutukawa's and flax flowers, bell birds and tui's could be heard. It was wonderful to get away from the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

Happy Monday everyone :)
