Harbour

9.8C and bright with long sunny spells. Light SSW/SW/SSE/S breeze.

After lunch Maeve the Deerhound and I went for the repeat of our usual morning walking route across the road and round to the park and the harbour and back along through town. When we got across the road we met our neighbour from downstairs with her two little dogs. Needless to say I was there chatting for a while. She told me during the conversation that our garden gate was open and possibly had been broken by the wind on Boxing Day and that a bit of our trellis looked broken too. Not such great news. We can't see the near end of our garden from the house as the shed (stone outbuildings) blocks the view.

Maeve and I wandered along past the harbour and carried on out to the end of the park. We met  a lady with her rescue Greyhound in the park and stopped so they could meet Maeve. More chatting.

We came back along the street side of the park and came home through town passing the town hall and the bookshop (closed). Once Maeve was home and settled I decided it was too late to go for another walk and then have a look at the gate, so I went down and looked at the gate. First I got the broken section of trellis (a lot of the trellis sections are very old) and tied it onto another section like a double layer just to secure it. The hinge post for the gate was fine but the other post where it closes was rotten and had broken off 6 inches above the ground. I removed that and laid it flat by the fence, then tied the gate back with some rope I had in the shed so it is secure and tight against a bush and safe until we can decided whether to have a new post put in our just not to have a gate.

Afternoon (what was left of it) music ... Craig Charles on BBC Radio 2.
