Christmas Candles.

Candles are used in many celebrations. In the Middle Ages a large candle was used to represent the Star Of Bethlehem. In some parts of Ireland it is traditional to have a Yule candle instead of a Yule log.  At the Roman Festival of Saturnalia, candles were given as gifts to guests to ward off darkness. Also offered to Saturn as a symbol of his light. The Pagans used candles and bonfires during Yule Festivals as symbols of the sun. In parts of Sweden, St Lucia is celebrated with the youngest daughter of the family wearing a crown of lit tapers. There are many more events where candles at Yuletide are used.
