The end of an era

Today Farmerboy's Aunty Val passed away.  She was 90.  It's an end of an era, as she is the last in the family to die - her brother and Farmerboy's mother passed away a few years ago, and Val was the only living member of her family left.  She never married and never had any children.  Farmerboy was her next of kin.

Val had a magnificent collection of photos, and we have spent time tonight going through her albums, which included photos that go back to World War 2.  Val was in the Land Army in NZ, and I've attached a second photo of her in my extra's of her dressed in her Army uniform.  She looked so beautiful.

Farmerboy and myself had the privileged  of sitting with Val for the majority of today, leaving only at 4.30pm to have some tea and get a couple of urgent jobs done on the farm. We were going to return to her after tea.

In the next half hour after we left, Val peacefully passed away.  By herself.  And being very independent all her life, that was obviously how she wanted it when she died.  She was in control right up to the last second.

R.I.P Val......we shall miss you.
