Books

A gloomy, damp day with hardly any light. So, I’m recommending some books.

These four have been shortlisted for the Novel section of the Costa Prize and I thought they might be worth trying. I have read and enjoyed the Tremain and the O’Farrell. I am now reading The Essex Serpent and getting into it well. This is Waterstone’s book of the year and I can see why. I bought it for my daughter, so hope she likes it. I am not sure about the Barry – not one I would have picked up, but I will try it. I suspect Gordon will read it before I do though.

And the knitting. I am at last attempting socks, using a kit I bought in Caldbeck a year ago. This is of course the easy bit. Difficulties lie ahead as I reach the foot bit.
