Life in Sunny Dubai

Watching the aeroplanes

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

And for the first time ever, I am flying on New Year's Day. It is SO WEIRD, but the drive up to the airport was very good and stress free. The airport itself was a different story! I have never seen such long queues in Terminal 5, or had to queue over thirty minutes to drop the bags off.

No problem though, Heathrow runs extremely efficiently and there were assistants pulling people out who needed to be on flights within the hour. We got to the counter, slightly worried about the weight in the cases, but we needn't have been. No problems there but we were given a super gift by the airline by way of an upgrade to World Traveller Plus! Woo hoo! First time ever for G; it was most appreciated.

So... my blip is from the Gate. I walked up to an aircraft close to me wanting to get a detailed shot, and by the time I got to my camera, it had been moved to where you see it in the picture. Argh!

We had an exceptionally good flight (got served sparkling wine right at the start); no drama, no turbulence, no delay - straight in and it didn't take too long to leave the chaos that is Dubai International Airport. We saw a performing troup who have flown over to do daily shows at Global Village. Their large cases labelled with the contents/owners was a bit of a giveaway. G had a chat and got more info.

Nice to be home again... it is so much warmer here! Hoping that 2017 holds lots of good things for us all; 2016 was a bit turbulent but we got through!
