Dia de los Reyes!!

"Epiphany, or the 12th day of Christmas, falls on January 6 and marks the official end to the festive season for many Christians... In the West, Christians began celebrating the Epiphany in the 4th century, associating it with the visit of the Wise Men to Jesus... During the medieval period, Christmas was celebrated for the 12 days from Christmas Eve on December 24, until the Epiphany. Even up until the 19th century, January 6 was as big a celebration as Christmas Day...

Across the world, the day's festivities vary. In the Spanish speaking world Epiphany is known as Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings' Day). In Mexico, for instance, crowds gather to taste the Rosca de Reyes - Kings' bread. In other countries, a Jesus figurine is hidden in the bread." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/18/what-is-the-epiphany-and-when-in-2017-is-it-here-are-10-facts-ab/

Apart from the odd sniff, Toffee has luckily shown no interest in the Christmas tree or the decorations, not even the little red plastic bauble that I hung on one of the lower branches for her. Following the tradition set by Mexican sis-in-law, we've kept a few small presents under the tree to celebrate Dia de los Reyes this evening, and yes, there is one even for Toff!

After a whole day spent dedecorating the house, I've run out of energy so the tree will have to wait until tomorrow, though the lights will sadly be switched off for the final time tonight... But don't worry Toff, only another 11 months and you'll have another tree to sniff!!
