Castle Fraser

The day started damp with occasional light rain. We had to make a visit to Inverurie, 15 miles or so from Aberdeen. After this we thought we would take a walk at Castle Fraser. Not many people around and everything was closed.

After a short walk a coffee beckoned. A restaurant with a craft shop I know was not far away so we decided to head in that direction. Well it is no more, another victim of poor trading conditions. Not sure I would blame the oil price crisis, rather the location is not on a tourist route.

We ended up at Morgan McVeigh on the road to Inverness. This at least is a busy road and the cafe was busy. By this time I was hungry and settled for a late lunch rather than a coffee!

The castle dates back to around 1640 with some bits being older, but it has been significantly altered over time though to the Victorian period.
