Walking the plank

A rather different - and more restful - day today (apart from the early start).  We caught the 6.30am ferry from Mandalay down the Ayeyarwady river to Bagan. This was a 10 hour journey (longer than it sometimes takes because the water levels were low and the boat had to zig-zag along the deep channel, avoiding the shallow areas). There was quite of lot of traffic on the river and that, together with glimpses of people, houses and temples on the river banks and islands, provided plenty of photographic interest.

On arrival at Bagan, we had to disembark via the very long, very narrow and very springy boarding planks, past the women washing their laundry in the river.  Having seen the floating unmentionables a little further upstream, I wouldn't want my laundry washed there.
