But, then again . . . . .

The Death of a Rose.

This particular blossom was last Blipped on Hogmanay when it was in its prime, so it has lasted pretty well; unfortunately, the rest of the plant’s condition matches that of this bloom. Its leaves have turned yellow and dropped off and the buds that promised much have merely gone a dirty yellow colour instead of developing to their full potential. At the same time as we purchased this specimen, we also selected numerous different shades of cyclamen, a number of which were intended for Blip duties; they have fared even worse in that all the foliage and flowers have withered leaving just dry corms; we live in the vain hope that they will regenerate in the warmth of spring but will not be holding our breaths. Meanwhile, our aging Christmas cactus soldiers on and has just started to open its buds, tardy it may be, but it has a dogged determination.

We’re quite certain that, had we left them on the shelves at the garden emporium three weeks ago, they would all be blooming luxuriantly. My only regret is that this one will not see the week out, it could have made a good Flower Friday specimen.

Edit: I've just noticed that it's a week older that I thought having had its first outing on Christmas Eve. I'm sure you were all dying to know that.
