Doubtful Sound

Today was our trip to Doubtful Sound.  This involved a coach ride, water taxi across Lake Manapouri and then a second (hair raising) coach ride to Doubtful sound.  The water taxi ride last about 50 minutes which gives an idea of the size of the lake.  We arrived at our ship at about 1400 and embarked, were given our cabins and then had a good look around as we got underway.  Doubtful does not have the almost vertical sides that Milford Sound has but is very quiet and tranquil and less visited.  The weather was a bit better than yesterday and even managed to take a few photographs without the need for the lens cloth.  Guests were invited to go swimming, to jump into the fiord from the ship or to go kayaking.  We didn’t feel up to any of this but stayed on deck and enjoyed some quiet time taking photographs and enjoying the scenery.

Dinner was delicious and plenty of it - and we had good company with a couple from Brisbane and another from Cologne.  After dinner we were treated to a talk by one of the crew all about the local flora and fauna.

A great experience and well recommended.
