Red Bull Defiance 2017

I have had a very entertaining morning.  This is a race for 2 competitiors in a team.  I stationed myself at West Wanaka Bridge, where there were a couple of transition stations.  The race itself started at Camp Creek, and the competitors rode their mountain bikes from there to West Wanaka Bridge (43K).  This was the first transition station.  They put on their gear for running and abseiling.  The abseiling was on a cliff overlooking Diamond Lake.  They ran there along the banks of the Matukituki River, then up a steep track to the top where they did the abseiling down a cliff face.  From there they ran back to West Wanaka Bridge, and changed into their life jackets.  They paddled their double kayaks down the Matukituki River and across the lake to Wanaka, which was the end of day 1.

The extras are:

1:  At the finish of the bike leg.
2:  Running over the West Wanaka Bridge.
3.  The first team running towards the kayaks
4:  Crossing the Matukituki River.  The kayaks were ready on an island in the river.
5.  The end of the race at Wanaka.

Day 2 is tomorrow.  Let's hope that the rain stops.

In the afternoon I went to Croquet, 18 of us there today.  Had some good games, 2 up one down.  It started to rain just as we were packing up.  Now at home in front of the fire with little 'h'.  Her parents have gone to see Star Wars.
