First Day of School!

Again.

Seriously, the build up was fierce. Last week, we met the new teachers, shopped for school supplies, organized the supplies in new school backpacks, and bought greatly needed new shoes. Together the kids packed lunches in their new lunch bags yesterday evening which included a piece of freshly baked zucchini brownie cake that is so delicious, you have no idea it is actually healthy for you!

The kids VOLUNTEERED to go to bed early last night so that they would get enough sleep to wake up energized for their first day of school. But I fear the excitement was just too much for Lewis (my almost ten-year-old). Around 1am, Lewis had a (first time ever) panic attack, he was so worried he wouldn't wake up in time to catch the bus. He just cried uncontrollably for 20 minutes and had the hardest time calming down. But this morning there was Alyssa at the foot of our bed, prodding us awake. They both woke up an hour earlier than their alarm clocks were set for. They got dressed and FIXED THEIR OWN BREAKFAST, and then were thoughtful to come wake us up.

As sleep deprived as I was, I was chuckling all morning at their energy. Even a heavy rain while waiting for the bus didn't dampen our spirits. And when the bus finally pulled away with my new Fifth grader and Third grader, I was singing and dancing in the rain. We made it! Now the house is ALL MINE.

Tomorrow morning, I fear, will be vastly different.
