Island Queen

4.8C (it was warmer through the night)  and bright with plenty of cloud around. E/ESE wind to 31 mph with gusts to 47 mph moderating late afternoon to approx. 22 mph with 32 mph gusts.

We decided to drive up to Tayinloan so we could have a walk on the beach with Maeve the Deerhound and have our first visit of the year to the wreck of Island Queen. It felt really raw walking on the beach with the temperature fairly low and the wind still quite strong. The tide was high and there wasn't a lot of beach left to walk on. Island Queen is slowly deteriorating. The winter has taken its toll.

As we walked back along the beach towards the pier the ferry was coming over from Gigha. Just before it reached the pier it turned through 180 degrees and approached very slowly. It was fully up against the concrete slope at the end of the pier before it let down the sea door/ramp which is very unusual. Whether weather related or perhaps a problem with the ramp at the other end of the boat I have no idea. I hope a weather related issue because an articulated lorry went on for the next crossing to Gigha with three other vehicles and I imagine the driver would rather not have to reverse it off.

We came home for lunch.

Later Apothecary7 was painting.
